Are you ready for that? Is anyone ready? Did you know Spanish is about to become the number 1 language for America? Yes, this is true. Spanish is already in the #2 spot of the top 100 languages spoken worldwide. Furthermore, it is ahead of English by 10 million people. The reason is because America doesn't have an "official" language.
English is already a secondary language for 480 million people, where Spanish is only secondary for 320 million people. Things are not the same from 50 to 100 years ago when immigrants came over to America, and had to learn English in order to adapt to the new circumstances. Now, people have kept their own language and do not bother to learn English. Numbers are increasing in a number of different languages with Mandarin (Chinese) being number 1. Mandarin has a total of 937,132,000 speakers. Studies have shown there is a possibility that Spanish can meet the number of Mandarin speakers in the next decade. Soon after that, the English language could be completely wiped out.
This is the reason most people should start at young ages to learn a second language. Spanish is the most mandatory. I hope you pay attention is Spanish class because you will definitely need it in your future at the rate America is heading at this moment. The DMV has even started giving tests in Spanish, driving and all.
While people are being lazy with things they learn, they are missing out on the things going on around them. For every 1 person speaking English, there are 5 speaking Spanish. From personal experience, I can sit down and actually see why America is where it is at. People just don't care. They don't take Spanish or any other language seriously. To be honest, I can say most people do care because they want to travel later in life. For the most part though, some don't care. But, life goes on and some will be left behind.
Not all people grow up learning 2 languages, so they don't feel it is important now. Well, it actually is. Some people I know have been taking Spanish for all nine years and they still don't know how to say: "Hello, my name is _____", the numbers at least to 10, the alphabet, or even the colors in Spanish. That is a total shame to not even know the basic things. It's time to step up your game America. No, we don't need the grade to graduate, but people at least need to show that they understand the basics. I say this because I am one of those children who grew up learning more than one language, but I still show how determined I am to be completely fluent. I hope people can finally understand how this world has and will change in the future. I hope you understand this; Adiós!
